Hallandale Beach (May 13)

On my first night (Wednesday night) at the hotel on Hollywood Beach (FL), I figured out that we were essentially in Hallandale Beach. You'll recall that while riding in the cab from the Hollywood train station to the hotel, we passed the horse racing track and casino, which was in Hallandale (see "By train"). After my first paid workshop (see "Nonresponse"), I went downstairs and out on the beach (pictured above) and also looked back at my hotel (the Westin Diplomat) (pictured below).

I then walked 15-20 minutes down the beach (south) - but didn't go very far because it was very sandy and in my dress shoes (?) I couldn't walk very fast - and soon I got to the center of Hallandale Beach, the water tower.

At the water tower, I headed off the beach in search of a pizza place one of the hotel staff people had mentioned to me. I walked south and south and - as it got dark - reached the Broward County-Dade County line. I didn't know how far I was from Surfside, where I had stayed the night before - and so I thought about hopping a bus or cab to Andrea and Christoph's.

After I turned around I took a picture of the Hallandale Beach sign, when it was already dark.

On the way back I thought I looked for cabs or buses but had to keep walking. It turns out that the pizza place was during the part of the road when I was walking, and so I had missed it. I ended up getting a Cuban sancwich at the Cuban deli next door.
