Arriving in Miami Beach

A month ago Tuesday night my friend Andrea drove me over the Intercoastal Highway bridge after passing Freedom Tower into Miami Beach, where I had stayed some four times during the 1990s and for one short night in July 2001. Andrea and her family live in Surfside, just north of Miami Beach, and we drove past a house where Andrea's mother, Deedee, lived soon after she moved to South Florida some 50 or 60 years ago and then (above) on Collins Blvd., the main north-south drag on the beach. We stopped for fancy take out Asian food (below) on our way into Surfside.

We parked first in this walk-able area.

While waiting for our food, we walked for 5 minutes on the beach.

We also checked out a new beachside development. Andrea (below) got in a call to home.
