Cab ride (May 13)

The fact that my cab double-backed some on the freeway - briefly heading south from the train station - should have alerted me that my hotel was on the very south end of Hollywood beach - essentially in Hallandale Beach. In Hallandale itself was the Gulfstream horse racing track and casino - the kind of complex some Democrats are trying to bring to KY - combining KY's existing eight or so race tracks with casinos a la Indiana. Pictured above and below are entrances to the track and casino.

The cab driver and I then awaited a bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway linking mainland Hallandale with the barrier island beach (below).

Soon the cab driver - for just $12 or $15 - was pulling me towards my beachfront hotel, the Westin Diplomat. I never did engage the driver - who I guess was Haitian American - in much of a conversation.
